The European Union has voiced strong concern over the escalating political tensions in Southwest State, amid an ongoing dispute between the regional administration and the Federal Government of Somalia.
The EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, stated that the situation is being closely monitored and stressed the urgent need for constructive dialogue to resolve the الأزمة.
In a statement released by EU in Somalia, the bloc emphasized that peaceful engagement and mutual understanding are essential to de-escalate the situation.
“The EU in Somalia is following the escalating situation in Southwest State with concern. Constructive dialogue is critical at this point; all mediation efforts are welcome and should be given a chance,” the statement read.
The tensions in Southwest State stem from political disagreements related to governance and electoral processes, leading to divisions among key stakeholders. The situation has also begun to affect local stability and administrative functions in parts of the region.
The European Union urged all parties to refrain from actions that could further inflame tensions and instead prioritize dialogue and inclusive solutions.
The international community has increasingly raised concerns over the stability of Southwest State, warning that continued unrest could have broader implications for Somalia’s overall political and security landscape.
